Jura Natura Services & the BEL Group

A Strategic Partnership for Peatland Restoration

The BEL Group, a pioneer in climate action

The BEL Group, a French giant in the dairy industry and creator of iconic brands such as La Vache qui rit, has established itself as a leader in the fight against climate change within the agri-food sector. With an ambitious goal of reducing its carbon emissions by 25% by 2035 and a strategy to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2050, BEL is investing heavily in carbon sequestration projects with multiple benefits.

With strong roots in the Jura region and two production sites in Lons-le-Saunier and Dole, the company prioritizes projects that combine carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and the creation of local value. This commitment is reflected in partnerships with recognized experts, including the Livelihoods Carbon Fund, the NGO African Parks, and WWF France’s Nature Impact initiative.

Why this partnership is a natural fit

This collaboration is part of a shared vision between Jura Natura Services and the BEL Group: to combine cutting-edge technical expertise with ambitious environmental goals. Peatlands, which are at the heart of our expertise, are a key ecosystem in the fight against climate change, thanks to their exceptional carbon storage capacity (twice that of all the world’s forests combined) and their crucial role in preserving biodiversity.

By partnering with BEL, Jura Natura Services is applying its specialized expertise in wetland restoration to support ambitious climate goals, while benefiting from a partner that shares our holistic approach to ecological restoration—that is, a comprehensive vision that simultaneously integrates biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and ecosystem services. This alliance enables our company to apply its technical expertise to large-scale projects, with the financial stability necessary to carry out long-term restoration efforts. This collaboration perfectly illustrates the convergence of Jura Natura Services’ technical field expertise and the environmental ambition of a committed industrial group, creating optimal conditions for restoration projects with significant ecological and climate impact.

Jura Natura Services and WWF France

From the bog to the sea: a shared ecosystemic vision

WWF France, a global leader in conservation

For 50 years, WWF has established itself as one of the world’s most influential environmental organizations. Active in more than 100 countries, this NGO has 220,000 donors in France and carries out concrete initiatives to promote biodiversity, climate action, and sustainable lifestyles.

JNS is a certified member of the "Entreprendre pour la Planète" Club

Officially certified by WWF France, Jura Natura Services is formally committed to a comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility. This commitment is demonstrated through active support for WWF conservation programs in priority ecoregions.
Beyond this financial support, Jura Natura Services systematically incorporates environmental and social criteria into all management decisions, projects, and investments, and raises awareness of these issues among all its stakeholders.

WWF France and Wetland Restoration

The WWF is taking concrete action to preserve wetlands that remain intact and restore those that have been degraded through a targeted land acquisition strategy; more than 1,500 hectares are currently protected. The WWF is also conducting a pilot restoration project covering more than 500 hectares, testing practices that are more environmentally friendly. The organization is also supporting the publication of the first atlas of France’s peatlands since 1949, in collaboration with the University of Franche-Comté.

Why this partnership makes sense

The partnership between Jura Natura Services and WWF France is based on a perfect synergy. The Blue Panda project, carried out from the research vessel of the same name, is a flagship program that protects Mediterranean biodiversity through awareness campaigns and scientific missions.
The wetlands that Jura Natura Services restores upstream are closely connected to the marine ecosystems protected by WWF. By rehabilitating these environments upstream, we help improve water quality downstream. Furthermore, the peatlands rehabilitated by our teams, just like the Posidonia seagrass beds protected by WWF, serve as formidable carbon sinks in the fight against climate change. This sponsorship reflects Jura Natura Services’ commitment to contributing to comprehensive environmental protection, from source to sea.

The Professional Association of Ecological Engineering (UPGE)

Founded in 2008, UPGE is the federation of companies in the ecological engineering sector. It brings together about 100 companies working to manage, promote, or restore biodiversity and ecological functions.

Jura Natura Services, an active member of this dynamic collective

As a member since 2020, Jura Natura Services benefits from a national professional network, collective representation before government agencies, and privileged access to technical and regulatory developments in the sector.

Legitimacy rooted in an emerging industry

This affiliation reinforces our standing as experts in an industry that is rapidly evolving, where the recognition of technical expertise is a key factor in addressing environmental challenges.

KALISTERRE CERTIFICATION

When the field validates the expertise

What is Kalisterre?

KALISTERRE certifies ecological engineering firms that deliver high-quality projects. This certification is awarded following a thorough review of the application and a site visit by professionals who conduct a practical assessment of the firm’s practices, methods, and projects. It is not an administrative label; rather, it is technical recognition from those who know the field.

The first French company to achieve Level II

Since 2021, Jura Natura Services has been the first French company to obtain Level II KALISTERRE certification, attesting to the excellence of its expertise in ecological engineering. This rare distinction places Jura Natura Services among the industry leaders nationwide.

What that means

Listed in the “Specialized Agencies” category, Jura Natura Services is recognized for its ability to assess project sites with objectivity and expertise, to take a critical yet constructive approach to submitted projects, and to propose solutions tailored to the specific conditions of each environment.

This certification offers a concrete guarantee: that you are entrusting your projects to a company whose expertise has been assessed, recognized, and validated by France’s leading specialists in ecological engineering.

PEFC

Overview

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is an international NGO that promotes the protection and sustainable management of forests worldwide. Founded in 1999 and active in nearly 50 countries, it is the leading source of certified wood in France and around the world.

In practical terms

PEFC certification is a tool that enablescollective action to preserve forests by adopting sustainable management practices, a rigorous chain of custody, and responsible purchasing habits on a daily basis. It certifies that wood and wood-based products come from sustainably managed forests, where forest owners, forest operators, and companies in the forest-wood-paper sector are committed to meeting sustainable management requirements and tracking certified wood flows at every stage of processing and marketing.

Traceability Guarantee

Only products sourced from PEFC-certified forests, followed by an unbroken chain of production and distribution between certified companies, are eligible for the label. This ensures that PEFC-certified wood used in the manufacture of fencing, for example, comes from responsible sources and contributes to sustainable forest management.
